About Our School
We are a Church of England Primary school and have very close links with Portishead Church of England and in particular with St Peter's Parish Church. We aim to value and introduce faith and welcome all regardless of their faith or belief. In 2018 we refined our vision of excellence to include "Excellence in all who we are, Excellence in all we do and Excellence in our service with others." You can find out more about our vision and the values that underpin this in other sections of this website. In February 2020, we were judged to be 'Excellent' in all areas in our SIAMS (church school inspection)
At St Peter's, we are always seeking to keep up to date with educational research, and best practice, and learn from this to deliver the very best education for all our pupils - our staff love learning!
In June 2017 we were designated a Teaching School. In this role we train teachers, provide high quality professional development and support to other schools. We are proud of the quality of teaching and learning we offer at St Peter's and very pleased to be able to share this with others. In October 2018 we were designated one of 32 English Hubs across England and this designation was in recognition of our expertise in the teaching of Phonics and Early Reading and our ability to support other schools. Over the last couple of years, we have supported over a hundred other schools as well as being able to offer our own teaching staff access to the very latest training and research. In January 2019 we hosted two teachers from Shanghai and welcomed over 400 teachers to the school to observe lessons and learn about our own approach to the teaching of mathematics.
We are the largest primary school in Portishead and as such can offer resources, and expertise in Primary Education. In September 2014 St Peter's became a 630 place primary school. As part of the expansion we have benefited from a £4.3 million development and have many state of the art facilities - making St Peter's a great place to learn.
We are very proud of our school and I hope that, through this website, you get a taste of what we offer and how we work. Whether you are a parent, a pupil or a friend of the school, I hope you enjoy finding out about St Peter’s. If you are a prospective parent, then we would be very happy to meet you and show you around. We are also happy to provide paper copies of information on our website if this is helpful to you.
